Almere city farm buys world’s first hydrogen tractor

Stadsboerderij Almere has bought the world’s first hydrogen tractor. H2Trac will build the tractor in the coming months and deliver it in early 2022.

De Stadsboerderij is a biodynamic farm with cows and 120 hectares of arable land and vegetable crops. According to Tom Saat, who together with Tineke van den Berg owns the Stadsboerderij, the hydrogen tractor fits in perfectly with the company’s plans. “We want to be self-sufficient. Our company is a recycling company. As clean and pure as possible. A major system failure is diesel consumption. Hydrogen has been on our wish list for years, but nobody could realise it. So we are pleased to be the first in the Netherlands with this innovative hydrogen tractor”, says Saat. He wants to produce the hydrogen on his own farm. The electricity for this is generated by his neighbour, the solar park at the former Braambergen landfill site in Almere.
